FINAL FILM OPENING

Evaluation: Question 1
Q1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
We have seen and analysed many different openings ranging from classic to contemporary. We looked at the openings of both; 'The Step Father' and 'The Roommate' the openings are new enough the same, as they are from the same creators.
At the start of the project we looked at the forms and conventions of film openings, conventions are used to establish a film. It also enables the audience to identify the distributor, cast, directors etc... through the idents, and the credits at the beginning.
We have seen and analysed many different openings ranging from classic to contemporary. We looked at the openings of both; 'The Step Father' and 'The Roommate' the openings are new enough the same, as they are from the same creators.
This is the conventional order of the titles that appear in both of the openings;

Here are some screengrabs from; 'The Roommate' as you can see the font they used is very simple and clear, this allows the audience read and identify the test easily, throughout the opening the credits will appear in different places instead of the same place over and over again. The arrangement of the text will be placed depending what is in the frame when it appears as they don't want the text to cover certain things on the frame. So thought is put in when placing the text and is not just placed in randomly. The font colour they used is an off-white colour, which stands out against a dark background, however at one point the text appears in the sky, which was also quite white, however they used a shadow effect on the text, this way the writing will be visible.
We chose to follow the same concept as the roommate as it is very simple and clear and looks very sophisticated overall. We did not do everything exactly the same as 'The Roommate' we used a different font and change the alignment of the title above the name.

Evaluation: Question 2
Q2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our media products represesnts the following social groups; love triangle, psychoitc women, stalker etc... I feel our media product represents these particular groups really well as within the opening the main character you see is Sibora who's role a phychotic women who is obsessed with Hannah (the girl underwater and in the photos). We made sure to dress Sibora up in a way which psycotic patients would be dressed in; which is a white hospital like gown.
The social group; 'Stalker' is also represented through our opening as you see close ups of photos of Hannah and her friends who's faces are scribbled out, highlighting Hannah as the main victim.
Evaluation: Question 3
Q3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Evaluation: Question 4
Q4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for the film genre; 'Thriller' would generally be targeted at both males and females at the ages 15 - 24
However our film is a Psychological Thriller therefor and they are normally aimed at 18+ as it may involve a lot of violence and some psychological issues which may be disturbing to a younger audience.
However for our film we are targeting mainly 15 - 20+ year old females.
Evaluation: Question 6
Q6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Evaluation: Question 7
Q7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Film Opening - FINAL
Editing Process - Part 5
Today is the day of the deadline and we only have sound left to put onto our opening, we exported our video into Soundtrack Pro and went through the lists of different sounds and sound effects they had that we could use for our opening. It took us quite a while to find the right sound but in the end we did. We also decided to add in foley sound to emphasize the original sound in the clip to make it ore effective. However we couldn't find anything on foley, so we quickly went out to record our own and put it on the clip.

Editing Process - Part 4
Today we began inserting the actual title sequences, we followed the same order as; The Roommate which is also similar to The Stepfather. We chose to use a simple font which would be clear enough for the audience to see and read. We made sure the font colour did not clash with the video, making sure the font was visible. We also began adding transitions to the titles and re-adjusting the the time the title will be up for.

Film Opening - Feedback
Film Opening - ROUGHCUT
Editing Process - Part 2
As a group we have decided to stick with the original idea and use the first set of footage we filmed. After going through the clips again we felt that there was a way round it and we could still use the clips, we just needed to edit it the right way so the faults are not visible.

Evidence of research into tittle sequence
Here are a few examples of award winning tittle sequence. Most follow the conventions of tittle sequences.
In addition below are examples of fonts to use in the title sequence.
Editing Process - Part 1
Today we have started editing, we imported all the clips that we filmed from yesterday and this morning into Final Cut Pro. We also re-named all the clips so it would be much easier for us when looking for a specific shot.
Filming - Shoot 3: Michelle's House
This morning Hannah came over to my house to finish filming for the opening. I took photos of Hannah using a polaroid camera. In the photos Hannah plays two different roles, one as the normal twin and the other as the mentally ill twin.
We only filmed close-ups os both the photos on the wall and the polaroids.
(more photos coming soon)

Planning - Location (Updated)
As we have changed the storyline of our opening, we have also included a new filming location. We chose to film some of our opening at St Anne's Church which is next to Hannah's house as I have stated before.
(NOT USING)
Change of Plans
After going through the clips as a group we decided to re-record everything, as all the shots before were not good enough and the storyline was quite off. So we decided to change the story line a bit.
There has also been a change of roles as Hannah insisted to. And there will only be one character throughout the opening, which will be Hannah. Sibora will be helping me out this the lighting and editing.
The opening will still be set in my room, and Hannah's house, however this time we will be filming in the church yard too, which is next to Hannah's house.
We have decided to change the story line a little, here is a brief synopsis;
Hannah is a twin, however she was separated from her twin sister at a young age as her family found out Hannah had a mental disorder and would be better for her and the family to abandon her. Hannah is now much older, and comes back to seek revenge.
The opening will start with over the shoulder shots, as Hannah is walking through the church yard towards her 'house'
