Genre and Sub-genre

Genre

Genres are categories of artistic compositions such as; in music or literature, in our case film, characterized by similarities in form, style or subject matter. They are produced this way in order to meet the needs of the specific target audience. Here are some examples;

                                             Romance                                                                                       Comedy                                                                                       Thriller
Sub-genre

A sub-genre is when there is genre within another genre, in other words; when elements from two or more film are blended together into one film. The purpose of a sub-genre movie is to attract a wider audience, as for example; if it was romantic film, most likely only women would watch it, however if they combine it with another genre such as comedy, this would also appear to men, as a result both parties will watch the film and that means a wider audience. Here are some examples of sub-genre films;

                                   Romantic Comedy                                                                   Phycological Horror                                                                            Action Comedy
