EVALUATION: Question 7

Q7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Our story board
Our animatic

During the Pre-production of our preliminary film we had we little time to plan it, 4 hours to be exact. We were shown tutorials on match cut and 180 degree rule to help form our preliminary. What we did was bullet point ideas where it would be handy to use the key methods of 180 degree. We later then built this idea to a story board. And an animatic. Exercising these skills long side shot/reverse shot in trying to become more effective in using it in our final product. In keeping with the thriller genre our preliminary had to focus on this. The plot was there was a woman who hired a hit man to kill her husband as she has found him out cheating on her.

This is us planning
Due to the time we had we were not able to plan everything thoroughly we had good lighting though due to us being privileged in using a film studio in college. In comparison to our final product we were able to plan to the core. We was well organised because we played it safe in using facilities that where available to us. Following the conventions we had plotted a story line and followed the narrative style.  We had booked a swimming pool to able to film because at first we was going to use Hannah's house pool but it had a leakage so we had to come up with an alternative. We then created a story board of the type of shots we wanted. Then we discussed what mise-en scene we are using. And type of lighting. In following with a thriller theme we wanted to keep low lighting.

Production we started to film at Hannas house we had got the shots we wanted in keeping with various rules. Our mise-en-scene was ready we only had to use a pen knife as a prop and costume. We controlled lighting by editing on final cut. And post production was all about editing.

However in comparison there is a huge difference in skills displayed on both the preliminary. Significantly the way we have shots. In our final product there is more types of shots used making it more effective. Our editing has improved. As we added music, tittle sequences.

What i have learnt on the whole with both production is that in order to try come up with a good idea you need time and patience. You need time to prepare and organise things such as booking of facilities. Then in order to be able to create a film you need to plan and storyboard  to help follow a narrative and create lots of different types of shots. During filming you need to know more about health and safety in order to be able to film safely. Once you have finished you need to be able to editing using final cut pro.  The skills you need is to know how to place certain shots and cut out bits you dont need and sometimes you would need to know how to render. Then how to find sound and add it on. Most important throughout this processes is team work you have to keep communicating with each other. And being able to comprise other wise if you dont know how to deal with different opinons and co-operate everyones ideas your team breaks down and then you will not be able to produce a good piece. After all there is no I in team.
